Think Piece-Week 13

This was probably the first or second times that I have read even part of the Facebook Privacy Terms and Google Privacy Terms. I say even part of because when I first read them I did not read them all the way. I realized that I never read much of the Privacy Policy of anything on the Internet. I usually read the bold parts and sometimes I will skim some of the sentences. I probably should read them more than I do, but I think I have a false sense of security. I did not read the Privacy Terms when Facebook and Google had on their websites that there was something different about each. I ignored them and forgot about them. Although I do not look at Privacy Terms, I am usually have only specific things on Facebook. My email address is not even able to be looked at by my friends.

I think, as I said, I have a false sense of security that I like. I know that it is not real, but I like having the false sense. This, although a little different reminds me of when the school had identifying things such as social security numbers taken off online. It makes me wonder if that I also have again a false sense of security that I will not have to deal with that again, although I had more of a false sense of security before it happened.

Think Piece-Week 9

I think the most interesting part of the article, “What Is Web 2.0: Design Patterns and Business Models for the Next Generation of Software” is that I did not think of a Web 2.0 or Web 1.0. I know some things, for instance Netscape, I have not seen since elementary school and/or before elementary school; however, I thought of them as things we did not go on on the Internet anymore, or that are not on the Internet anymore. I do not understand a lot about Internet technology, but I do know that 2.0 and 1.0 are not the same in terms of Internet technology.

The other thing that was interesting in the article is that Tim O’Reilly wrote about blogs. When I was in middle school, I like blogs, and then I thought they weren’t used often when I was in high school. Now, I see them more often, or at least, as also mentioned, “opinion columns.” And, this is the first blog I have used since my freshman year of college.

Another thing that was a very little bit interesting is that out of the websites written in the article, I know of more 2.0 websites than 1.0 websites, but I do know some of the 1.0 websites.

Think Piece-Week 6

I think the most interesting thing was the article “Do You Know Where Your Commercials Are?” Although not the main thing that was talked about, I did not know that Spike had a lot of commercial in a row. I have watched Spike before and do not remember that many. It was also interesting because I thought that the places that had commercials knew what television show they would have a commercial in. I would like to know if companies know the specific amount of commercials for their company that are on a channel, such as, for instance, nine per day.

Something else interesting is rep firms versus ad networks. I am not sure that I could specifically say which is which to someone, but I understood which is which based on what the article says. The article is “Ad Networks and Rep Firms: Know the Difference.” It took me a little bit and the analogy to know which is which.

I also think the article “Upstart Challenges ComScore, Nielsen Web-Traffic Counts” has some interesting things. It said that “if users access a site from multiple computers, they’re counted multiple times. Alternatively, multiple people use the same computer, they’re counted only once.” Although I do not think that the latter can be changed, I do not like that. Also, I do think the former can be fixed if it is something that one must be on an account for.

Think Piece-Week 5

I think the most interesting thing I read from the article was that there are that many "metrics." I knew about some including clicks and hits. I did not know that there was a difference between hits and visits. According to the article, I think that visits is just which website you are on, but hits is what you are doing on the website you go to. I did think it was interesting that the article had a “Table” and had five parts to it, which are comarketing success, usefulness, targeting efficiency, stickiness/user relationship quality, exposure/popularity. Some of the metrics were in two of the parts, such as visits.

Another thing that was interesting was that I did not know that an article would say stickiness. According to the article, stickiness is the “composite of number of users, frequency, recency, and average time per visit/visitors.” I had assumed what stickiness meant when I saw the word, and I believe that I was right. I think the word stuck out because I thought it was a funny word, especially for an article that is professional. A lot of the metrics I knew would be, but I did not realize that there was that many.

A third thing I found interesting was unique visits and visits. I heard about unique visits, but I was not sure what they are. The article stated that unique visits are “usefulness of the site (number of visitors)” and “number of unique users.” The article stated that visits are “usefulness of the site (number of visits)” and “ number of user sessions.” I still am not sure the difference.

Think Piece-Week 4

I think the most interesting thing was that it made me think I the difference between ads on television and online. I think I try to not care about online advertisement more than television. The advertisements I view, if not television, are usually video online, but I do not like advertisements.

Think Piece-Week 3

I think I was found out most was that I did not know a lot about advertising when it comes to online. I did not know any of the companies they talked about. I feel partially like I should know them, but partially that it is not bad because in 1994 I was 2 or 3. I knew that advertising was used a lot, however. One type they talked about was going to the ad, "clicking," and I heard about that my freshman year in college.

Think Piece-Week 2

I think the most interesting thing after reading the articles was that I did not know DoubleClick was around. It makes sense, but I did not know about it, which may be because when it was a part of Google I did not know about advertisements like the articles talked about. I knew about advertisements, but not what the article said. I want to know if Yahoo has done something like Google did after Google. The other thing that was interesting was that the author of the other article wrote like Yahoo was now not used as much. I think Yahoo is used, but Google is definitely used more. Although, on my iPod, Yahoo is where you are able to go if you go on the weather app. The safari app does have something for Google, though. I also thought of that I have only seen three or so people with an email address that says ymail, but there are many that say gmail. There are times that I forget that gmail is in Google. I think the author is right in some ways that Yahoo is not used as much, but I think that it is still used.

Media Diary-Day 7

I looked at my Facebook and email when I got up. I went to where I work and looked at Facebook and watched three television episodes. When I did this, I was done with the work, but I did not have to work today because it in a job on the school.

I knew this before, but I look at my email and Facebook every day when wake up. I also look at one or two email addresses everyday because they are on my iPod, but if I did not have it I would only look at one email address every day.

Media Diary-Day 6

I went on my email and Facebook when I got up. I went on an email at work because I do not have that on my iPod. I went on Facebook and asked someone a question that was not answered when I had asked someone else yesterday.

Media Diary-Day 5

I looked at my Facebook and email when I got up. I sent emails to two advisors an organization. I also went on Facebook before an event and asked a friend if she was going to go.

Media Diary-Day 4

I went to the studio and went on me email and Facebook because my iPod battery was dead. I later charged my iPod for 10 to 15 minutes and checked my email. One of the reasons was because I had a text that told me about a possible email. I read part of an article and sent it to a nurse via Facebook because it had to do with someone I was told about by her.

Media Diary-Day 3

This morning I looked at my email and Facebook when I was up. I sent emails and looked up a form when I was working. I also went on Facebook after I was done an to make events.

Media Diary-Day 2

Today I went on Facebook and email again when I got up. I also went on Facebook briefly while at a school morning show to see if a girl was online, but she was there before my Facebook was on, and I shut it off the minute I was able to. I went on Facebook between classes because I wrote a question to a friend. I emailed someone about something I did for work. I went on Facebook after my event, the something I did for work.

Media Diary-Day 1

Earlier today I went on my iPod, which is something I do almost every day when I get up. I played some games, went on Facebook, and checked email. I went to work and went on Facebook, Playlist and Pandora. I also looked up some thing for work. Later, I also watched some television.

Think Piece-Week 1

I think the most interesting thing I read was “The Difference Between the Internet and World Wide Web.” I did not know that they were different. I was slightly confused at first, but I know the difference now, although it is hard for me to give examples, except ones that were in the article. It does make me want to find out if there are many other things like the World Wide Web. I think that there is, but I do not know. I think it is odd that I only knew half a week ago, since I read the article on Thursday, that they are different. I took a class in middle school about the internet, and maybe since I was in middle school they did not tell us, but I think they should have.

The other thing I found interesting was that I did not think the Atlantic Cable would be made be the 1940’s. When I read it was from 1857 to 1858, I was shocked. I wonder if there are still a lot of wires, or if most things are done by satellites. I want to know if in the future the wires will not be used at all. I also want to know where all of the wires are.
